Inhabitants of the Chiloé Island have a legend of a single-horned creature called Camahueto. Its name in Mapudungun means "very bad" (cadme – very, hueto – bad). According the Huilliche Indians, Camahueto is the size of a yearling calf with a single silver horn on its head. The color of the creature is "mari", the blue-green color of the sea. Camahueto is born in rivers; at first it is small, but quickly grows and once it reaches adulthood, it rushes towards the sea. With its strong claws and sharp teeth, it can destroy ships and feeds not only on fish, but also on human flesh.
