Itinerarius Ioannis de Hese presbyteri a Hierusalem[]
English translation[]
Four days from Sinai is the Campum Helym; there are no venomous animals in it; near it is a river called Marach, the water of which is very bitter. Moses struck it with his rod and made it sweet. It is said that in these days, the water is poisoned by noxious animals before sun-rise, so that no good animal can drink of it, but in the morning after sun-rise, the unicorn comes and puts his horn into it and expels the venom out of it, so that it may be drunk during the day, and this I saw.
